It marked a historic moment for the Tamil community living in Nova Scotia. As January had been officially recognized as Tamil Heritage Month by the Government of Canada, the Halifax Regional Municipality commemorated the occasion by hoisting the Tamil Heritage Flag at City Hall for the first time in Nova Scotia’s history.
The flag was raised at the Grand Parade, City Hall, Halifax, and remained hoisted until February 20, 2025. The occasion was witnessed with immense pride by members of the community who gathered to celebrate this significant achievement.
Heartfelt thanks were extended to Andy Fillmore, Mayor of Halifax, along with the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Government of Nova Scotia, for recognizing the rich history, culture, and contributions of the Tamil community. Appreciation was also conveyed to Laura White for her support, and to everyone who attended the ceremony despite the cold weather to show their solidarity and pride.
